Noah hit the bullseye with every detail. The piece comes on either a black or brown leather strap with a croc pattern. I’m giddy about how the brand changed its logo to cursive to give it even more of a retro vibe. If it were up to me, every brand would have a cursive logo. Obviously brands don’t like to change up their branding willy-nilly, so it’s cool to see Noah make that concession for the good of the watch.

Noah previously experimented with this oval-shaped case when it released its Lighthouse watch over the summer. “With this latest model, we’re making [the oval-shaped case] more approachable,’ Noah founder Brendon Babenzien tells me via email. “The Fire Island lighthouse is a bit more specific to my upbringing; this one feels right for anyone.”

While the Tank-inspired watch was a massive hit, expect to see Babenzien and Noah to look toward new shapes moving forward. “As we continue to build out our watch program at Noah, we’ll keep experimenting with new shapes, complications, and designs,” Babenzien said. “We’d like to continue introducing our ideas and establish ourselves as a group with a unique, interesting point of view on watches, without being stuffy. We’ll probably circle back at some point to the Tank-inspired shape, but for now we’re allowing ourselves to have fun with newness.”

As Brynn Wallner recently wrote for GQ, the most flex-worthy watch is a cheap one. Another excellent $228 option from Noah and Timex is further proof that you don’t have to be a kajillionaire to rock a sick timepiece.
