It can be annoying when something new comes on the scene and suddenly everyone starts saying it’s better than whatever you’ve gotten into a routine with. Like, is it actually better? Is it really worth spending a few more money on? For some things, like fancy olives or the latest iPhone, the answer to these questions is, “Probably not.” For many of the editors and readers at GQ, when it comes to CDLP boxer briefs, the answer is an emphatic, “Hell yes.”
If you’re used to your Calvin Kleins, you might be particularly miffed to hear this. A three-pack of CK’s classic trunks is typically $46, making each pair around $15, whereas a trip of CDLPs is more than double that: $120 on a normal day. Still, the best Black Friday deals do not an ordinary day make, and you can collect yours today for $96 (or just under $32 per pair) this weekend. We, and the hundreds of guys who have bought a pair via our underwear guide, think it’s more than worth it, even at full price.
Originating in Stockholm, CDLP has dedicated its output to your daily foundation… and it’s probably the coolest underwear brand currently operating. Its slick, understated (no logomanic waistbands here, thank you very much), and sustainable basics are undeniably appealing—just ask anyone who’s put these silk-like kecks to skin.
What’s so special about these particular pants, then? Well, stitched from a little something called ‘Tencel Lyocell’ (that’s a fibre derived from certified renewable wood sources, to you and I), these bad boys are not only pretty planet-friendly, but also über-soft and majorly breathable too. In terms of cut and fit, what CDLP is dealing out is a fitted (NB: not tight) jersey feel outlined by a mid-rise waist and regular leg. A classic boxer shape, both elevated and simplified.
To be clear: we still rate CKs (which,FYI, are also on major sale for Black Friday) the tops. In fact, Lifestyle Director Mike Christensen prefers them to this day: “Everyone needs a support network they can rely on. Mine includes my CKs.” But there’s a growing contingency of guys who can’t give up spending a little extra for the silk-like Tencel Lyocell of CDLP.
