A blogger.
How do you typically deal with rejection in your field?
Rejection actually feels like the norm to me. If I get a yes, I’ll be very, very happy, but also I’ll be scared. I’ll be like, “Oh, okay. It’s actually a challenge. How can I not let people down?”
But if I get a no, I’m like, “Cool, no worries. I’ll get better.” So I’m more comfortable with no’s and I have very thick skin. I’m very, very strong, I have a high pain threshold.
Where do you think that comes from?
I think it was just since little I guess. My mom just taught me to be like, “It’s not a big deal.” She didn’t tell me to be strong. She’d just be like, “It’s not a big deal.” And I’d be like, “Yeah, you know what? It’s actually not a big deal.”
What’s the best piece of money or career advice you’ve ever gotten?
My mom has always given me money and career advice. She’s the one who reminded me, before I achieved some success, she’s always like, “Remember, life is not just about work.” So I try to see success not defined by the numbers, but by, at least half your time and energy on work and half just on life itself.
I’m really, really trying to reach that split, to just be really happy. It doesn’t have to be 50/50. It can be like 60/40. Sixty play, 40 work, 70 play, 30 work. Money is a tool.
What’s your go-to work outfit?
Jeans and whatever sweater in the winter. Because I help packing sometimes as well. That’s why I never have full nails.
What was the last thing you bought that you were genuinely excited about?
A vintage skirt. I’m a heavy shopper on RealReal. And I only buy vintage clothes. Strictly. I don’t buy too many clothes nowadays, and I prefer if I buy for it to be secondhand so I can just sell it back if I don’t like it anymore. My life is more minimal that way. My closet is smaller than my husband’s.
Do you have anything on your list to buy?
Anything Phoebe Philo.
What’s your favorite low stakes treat after a productive day?
Sauna.
What is your go to thank you gift?
A Verafied handbag.
What is your email sign off?
“Warmly, Vera.”
Finish this sentence: people would be happier doing their work if …
