Marty Supreme, one of the best films of the year, continues to rewrite the playbook for modern movie promo.
At the Josh Safdie-directed film’s Los Angeles premiere on Monday (Dec. 8), star Timothée Chalamet, who plays the greatness-obsessed Marty Mauser, walked the red carpet with Kylie Jenner. The two, whose joint red carpet appearance marked a rarity for the couple, wore matching custom Chrome Hearts in a distinctly Marty Supreme-ian shade of orange.
For his look, Chalamet, fresh off bagging his fifth Golden Globes nomination, paired the all-over orange suit with a custom Chrome Hearts ping-pong paddle holder. The actor’s stylist, notably, is Taylor McNeill, a name that should be familiar to Kendrick Lamar fans.
Chalamet’s brilliant performance in Safdie’s latest is joined by an equally inspired turn from Odessa A’zion, who can currently be seen in the Rachel Sennott-created HBO Max gem I Love LA. The extended cast also boasts Gwyneth Paltrow in rare form, plus the feature film acting debut of Tyler, The Creator.
“I’m so grateful, beyond grateful,” Tyler told the crowd at a surprise screening back in October. “I play piano and put on cool clothes. I do not act at all. [Josh Safdie] is so good that I trusted him and said, ‘Anything you need. I don’t want to read this script. I will show up and be there.’ Because I trust this man and the way he curated and handled every detail.”
Marty Supreme, as you’re no doubt aware thanks to a series of shrewdly delivered reminders, is in theaters on Christmas Day. Don’t miss it.
