Playboi Carti claims that he’s banned from the Met Gala.
The rapper broke the news on Instagram with a post showing off what appeared to be his Met Gala fit. “MET GALA BANNED ME FELT LIKE WE GOT KICKED OUT OF PROM BUT WE GOOD [GIO] WITH ME IM A HAPPY MAN F*CK EM,” he wrote.
Carti’s alleged ban echoes Luka Sabbat’s claim that he’s also barred from the event for smoking. In 2019, Sabbat posted a selfie smoking a cigarette at the venue, violating the event’s no-smoking policy.
Donald Trump has also been revealed to be banned from the event — but it’s likely the last place he’d go anyway.
Carti wasn’t the fashion-forward artist to not attend the Met Gala. Influencer and model Wisdom Kaye let the world know that he wasn’t going to the prestigious event because he hadn’t been extended an invitation.
“I was not invited to theMmet, I know you guys wanna see me there so just letting y’all know,” he wrote. “Looking forward to seeing all the beautiful interpretations of black dandyism tmrw :).”
In April, Kaye posted a TikTok video about being uncertain if he was going to be there.
“I don’t know if I’m going to the Met Gala,” he said. “I know I went last year, but guys you have understand, the only reason I went last year was because TikTok literally bought a table. I was sitting next to Jack Harlow and Shou Chew, the CEO of this app. That’s the only reason I went there, because they bought a table.” He argued that the Met Gala is an A-list event, so it shouldn’t be a surprise if he doesn’t turn up this year.
“If you guys wanna screenshot every tweet, package them up, and send them to Anna Wintour… be my guest!” he laughed. “I don’t think they really want to have social media people there this time around.”
