Justin Bieber is apparently pretty into golf lately. Last week, the singer shared a screenshot of himself on a FaceTime call with the “dirtbag cool” professional golfer Min Woo Lee, whom the Biebs congratulated for his win at the Houston Open. Frankly, we’d love to see what kind of fits Bieber and Lee (who, by the way, have both sported sexy, sleazy mustaches at one time or another) would pull off together on the links. Perhaps they’d match in ultra-fitted performance mock necks and Marni plaid trousers? Would Lee swap his Oakley mirrored wraparounds for one of Bieber’s little rolled-up beanies? Let’s manifest this link(s)up.
In the meantime, Bieber gave us some insight into his personal golf style this week while grabbing a coffee en route to a course in sunny Palm Springs, before Coachella kicks off this weekend. (Justin and his wife, Hailey Bieber, actually just picked up their festival passes—on a golf cart, no less!—and though he’s not on the docket to perform this year, he has been recording new music lately.) He suited up for a round in a greenish-gray V-neck sweater vest layered over a bright red, oversized collared shirt, ultra-baggy pinstripe shorts, and rubber-toed Marni clogs. He accessorized with a contorted mesh-and-canvas bucket hat and matching green socks. Bieber later shared some conceptual shots of the outfit in action, including a blurry close-up of those clogs on a zooming golf cart, on Instagram. (It does seem that Bieber would rather share fit pics on his own accord than have them documented by paparazzi. On Wednesday, the singer confronted several photographers outside of a Palm Springs coffee shop, telling them, “You don’t care about people. Only money. No people. You don’t care about human beings.”)
While we don’t know what Bieber’s golf game is like, his outfit nailed exactly the sort of “trippy Caddyshack” look that jibes with golf’s new era of “no rules” style—and as several of my GQ colleagues agreed, it was one of Bieber’s best outfits yet.
