Cardi B’s wigs continue to be a topic of conversation both in and out of the courtroom.
Shortly after a jury determined she did not assault former security guard Emani Ellis in 2018, the rapper spoke to reporters outside of a Los Angeles courthouse on Tuesday (Sept. 2) to thank the jurors, the judge, the “respectful press,” and “everybody at home” for their support.
A reporter then pointed out in Spanish that the rapper wore a different wig for all five days of the trial.
“I’m telling you guys, when I say that my forehead is raw from changing all these wigs,” Cardi responded in English, making the reporters laugh. “Raw, raw, raw, raw.”
Cardi’s different wigs throughout the trial, which began on Aug. 26, prompted the plaintiff’s attorney Ron Rosen to ask if her hair is real.
“Yesterday, you had black hair, short hair. Today it’s blond and long,” Rosen said at the time. “Which one is your real hair, or are they both real?”
Cardi let out a brief laugh before responding, “They’re wigs.”
Outside of the courtroom, Cardi also insisted to reporters that, despite her reputation, she did not assault Ellis and would begin countersuing individuals who bring “frivolous” lawsuits her way.
“I swear to God I will say it in my deathbed: I did not touch that woman,” Cardi said. “I did not touch that girl, I didn’t lay my hands on that girl. With that being said, this time around I’m gonna be nice. The next person to try to do a frivolous lawsuit against me, I’m going to countersue and I’m gonna make you pay because this is not OK.”
“I know I got a lil reputation,” she added as the reporters around her laughed. “But I swear to God I’m innocent.”
The “Enough (Miami)” rapper also asked her fans not to harass Ellis or her family on social media.
“I hope that this is something that I leave behind, that she leaves behind,” she said. “Don’t go bother her. Don’t be talking about her, don’t be talking about how she looks. Don’t call her no nasty names. Let’s just put this behind.”
Tuesday’s decision clears the way for Cardi to continue the rollout for her upcoming album Am I the Drama?, which is set to be released on Sept. 19.
