Bella Hadid’s style has evolved throughout her career, but one thing has stayed consistent. She has always loved accessorizing with teeny tiny sunglasses. The super model’s wardrobe choices have had an undeniable impact on women’s street style. She deserves a lot of credit for bringing these small spectacles of the ’90s back into vogue.

At the Dior Homme Fall/Winter 2018 show,Hadid pulled up in full menswear tailoring: a black-on-black jacquard suit, sheer bralette, and skinny scarf. Perched low on her nose were a pair of Dior Raves—small, round-framed sunglasses with flame motifs on the legs. It’s cyberpunk done the Hadid way.
There are a handful of times Hadid’s street style catapulted a trend.This was one of them. The trend was dubbed “geek chic,” basically early ’00s preppy style with a nerdy twist.. She wore a collared sweatshirt, midi-length plaid skirt, crew socks, and Adidas Sambas with vintage two-tone Fubu Bayonetta glasses. Tiny glasses have been trendy ever since.
In June 2021, Hadid touched down in Paris for Men’s Fashion Week and rendezvoused with her friend, the late Virgil Abloh. Dressed in a casual but unmistakably “Bella” fit, she topped off the look with a pair of vintage red Chanel sunglasses from the ’90s. At the 2024 Cannes Film Festival, Hadid was photographed along the French Riviera holding an ice cream cone. Styled by Molly Dickson, what seemed like a carefree moment actually told a deeper story. She wore a Michael and Hushi Fall/Winter 2001 dress made from a traditional keffiyeh scarf—a symbol of Palestinian resistance. Bella, who has long been vocal in her support for Palestine, used an international stage as a political platform. Her frameless rectangular sunglasses with amber-tinted lenses didn’t distract from the message, but rather acted as a supporting detail.
In 2017, Hadid was photographed in New York City on her way to film Sneaker Shopping wearing the Le Skinny sunglasses by Australian designer Poppy Lissiman. These ultra-thin, triangular frames were a departure from conventional eyewear styles. Her choice to wear them played a significant role in popularizing the micro-sunglasses trend, influencing both high fashion and street style at the time. This moment marked a turning point in eyewear fashion and cemented her as one of this generation’s “it” girls.
