For fans who have been paying attention to Kyrie Irving’s footwear, you may remember a moccasin-inspired Anta Kai 1 during the NBA Western Conference Finals in May. Now, that same sneaker is releasing to the public.
Dubbed “Chief Hélà,” this upcoming Kai 1 makeup pays homage to Irving’s Native American heritage, mimicking footwear traditionally worn by Indigenous people. The rest of the shoe is dressed in a brown color scheme with moccasin fringe wrapping around the heel. Completing the look is a light brown outsole.
“The Chief Hélà colorway reflects Kyrie’s roots, deeply grounded in the support of his family and heritage,” Shaneika Warden, Anta’s color design director, said. “We wanted to capture that energy and bring it to life through this design, allowing fans to connect with Kyrie’s lineage every time they lace up.”
According to Anta, the “Chief Hélà” Kai 1 will be released on Oct. 12 at Anta.com and at select stockists for $125.
