Air Max Day 2026 is almost upon us, and in celebration of the brand-created holiday, we’re taking a look at how well you actually know your Air Maxes. More specifically, we’re talking about the actual technology and Air bags that go into the shoes.
Nike’s Air Max technology has been one of the brand’s defining innovations since it was introduced in 1987 as an enhanced version of the standard Air first used in the Tailwind in 1978. While Nike Air was used to cushion many shoes in the following decade, it didn’t become visible until the Air Max 1. In the nearly 40 years since, it’s evolved in countless ways, from the length of the bags, to the volume, to the pressure inside. It’s grown to encompass the entire soles, been reengineered in Zoom forms, and even used in uppers for enhanced fit and protection.
Which Air bag goes with which shoe though? In this quiz, we’re testing your knowledge to see how well you match up the technology with the Air Max sneakers. How well do you really know Nike Air Max?
