Angel Reese debuted her new Reebok Angel Reese 1 “Mebounds” colorway at the WNBA All-Star Game on Saturday (July 19).
Reebok and Reese on Friday unveiled the second colorway of the Reebok Angel 1 that’s bright, bold, and very pink. It’s named “Mebounds” as a reference to the Chicago Sky player’s WNBA record-breaking rebound stats.
Reese revealed the shoe’s initial “Diamond Dust” colorway earlier this month. Reebok and Reese announced the shoe in October after the WNBA player signed a multi-year contract extension.
Reese’s “Mebounds” colorway wasn’t the only unveiling at the WNBA All-Star Game this year. Ahead of the event, won by Team Collier, players including Caitlin Clark and Kelsey Plum warmed up while wearing T-shirts with the words “Pay Us What You Owe Us” on the front.
This moment of protest came two days after more than 40 players met with league officials during the latest round of collective bargaining agreement negotiations.
Los Angeles Parks guard Kelsey Plum later spoke about wearing the shirts and how the audience chanted in favor of them.
“That was a powerful moment,” Plum said. “We didn’t, at least as players, we didn’t know that was going to happen. So it was a genuine surprise. Those chants tonight, those signs, it just shows that as players, we are united, but the fans are united in believing what we’re seeking.”
WNBPA president Nneka Ogwumike explained the shirt’s slogan afterwards, according to ESPN.
“We see the growth of the league, and as it stands, the current salary system is not really paying us what we’re owed,” Ogwumike said. “And we want to be able to have that fair share moving forward, especially as we see all of the investment going in, and we want to be able to have our salaries reflected in a structure that makes sense for us.”
