Good products often find homes far beyond their intended audiences. That’s the case with everything from 4-wheel drive vehicles to blue jeans. However, it seems particularly true of high-end outdoor gear, where technical constructions and bright colors, meant to keep climbers, skiers, and explorers alive in unpredictable, freezing conditions, also prove valuable on the streets. It makes sense. After all, everyday people also face rain and snow and like to stand out.
In the UK, the Berghaus Trango jacket blazed that exact path.
In the mid-’80s, Berghaus worked with mountaineer Sir Chris Bonington to design the Trango for a British expedition to K2. Shortly after its 1986 release, the Trango jacket attracted the attention of football casuals and ravers, particularly in the cities of Liverpool and Manchester, where its 3-layer GORE-TEX shell and vibrant blocking provided a wonderful balance of functionality and visibility.
From there, Britpop adopted the jacket. Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher famously wore Berghaus jackets in the ‘90s.
Now, Gallagher is back working with the brand in an official capacity as the face of its Trango campaign. It’s a perfect fit, blending authenticity with global name recognition, as Berghaus reintroduces the Trango to the world.
